Experience a concert that highlights the variety and expressive power of the human voice! The Berlin-based upper voice choir JASSA meets the German-Danish vocal group AVOPA – Aarhus Vocal Painters. Together, they present a diverse program ranging from classical and pop to improvisation and vocal painting.
At JASSA, young Berlin-based FLINTA* individuals, feminism, and sophisticated choral music come together. As a self-organized upper voice ensemble, we develop contrasting programs in project-based phases, following a dynamic path between jazz/pop and classical choral music. In line with our feminist vision, we aim to create a safer space for non-binary and queer individuals and to make female and queer composers more visible through carefully curated repertoire choices. Since its founding in 2021, the choir has been led by Johanna Brüll.
AVOPA creates music in the moment – a creative process full of magic and spontaneity. Do you know how a warm summer evening with your friends around a bonfire sounds? Or a water drop that pulled you out of a wonderful dream because you forgot to close the window? The six professional singers from Denmark and Germany – Margrethe Debel, Philip Eick, Frieda Funk, Mira Siegel, Tjeda Efken, and Niels Jensen – have an answer to that and their answer sounds different from concert to concert. What doesn’t change is their love to explore the core of every emotion. AVOPA shapes the sounds live, guided by a nonverbal sign language known as Vocal Painting. You can expect beautiful haunted ballads, weird and hilarious songs in made-up languages, even screams! But most of all: you can expect the unexpected!
Look forward to a concert that playfully explores new sounds and brings the creative possibilities of the voice to life.
